Bettina Experton, M.D., M.P.H.
President & CEO

Dr. Experton is the founder, President and CEO of Humetrix which she has led over the last 15 years on the HIT innovation path starting with the development of health risk appraisals, chronic care management software, and since the early 2000s with the development of novel mobile device-based solutions which have been deployed worldwide. A physician with over 20 years of healthcare informatics experience, Dr. Experton is the author of multiple information technology patents. At Humetrix, Dr. Experton also conducted groundbreaking health services research on the frail elderly which led to major federal legislation in the area of Medicare and managed care, and has been a national healthcare policy advisor in the US, China, and France. As a healthcare IT advisor to the French Ministry of Health, she made important contributions to the design of the newly launched French government sponsored single web-based individual health record with smart card access made available to French citizens and their physicians. Dr. Experton is an Adjunct Professor of Medicine at the University of California at San Diego, School of Medicine and a permanent member of the Faculty of the School of Medicine in Paris, after graduating Summa Cum Laude where she completed her training in Internal Medicine. In California, Dr. Experton received a Master’s degree in Public Health with a major in epidemiology from Loma Linda University School of Public Health, completed a Pediatrics internship at University of California Davis Medical Center and a Public Health residency with the State of California Department of Health Services.

Christopher R. Burrow, M.D.
Executive Vice President for Medical Affairs

Dr. Burrow, a physician-scientist and biotechnology executive/entrepreneur initially served on the Humetrix Advisory Board and joined the executive team in 2010. Prior to joining Humetrix, Dr. Burrow was an Executive-in-Residence at the venture capital firm Kleiner, Perkins, Caulfield & Byers where he became one of the founders of CardioDx, and played a key role in the genetics/genomics research program of the company as a member of its Board of Directors. As V.P. of Research & Medical Affairs at DNA Sciences, Dr. Burrow was a director of GeneTrust®, a large-scale genetics research program which pioneered the use of internet-recruited subjects. Prior to that, Dr. Burrow created and led an NIH and biotechnology industry funded research team investigating Developmental/Stem Cell Biology of the kidney initially at the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine, and later at the Mount Sinai School of Medicine where he was Associate Professor of Medicine in the Division of Nephrology. At the Mount Sinai Medical Center, Dr. Burrow was a clinical leader in the effort to provide real-time online practical physician access to inpatient clinical data stored in a newly created data warehouse. An Alpha Omega Alpha graduate of Baylor College of Medicine, Dr. Burrow completed his internal medicine residency, postdoctoral fellowships in Nephrology and Molecular Biology at the Johns Hopkins Hospital/School of Medicine where he was subsequently appointed Assistant Professor of Medicine and Attending Physician in Nephrology.

Brad Tipler, M.Sc.
Executive Vice President Technology & CSO

Mr. Tipler has provided technical and management leadership for highly successful communication product development companies for more than 25 years. As Manager of Military Communications at Software Kinetics Inc. he designed and developed TCP/IP routers for the ARPANET, a predecessor of the Internet. As a Director of Engineering and Assistant General Manager (AGM) at Intel, he led the development of the very first Bluetooth devices, and served as Chairman of the Bluetooth Qualification Review Board (BQRB) where he led the creation of the ecosystem and process for ensuring the interoperability of Bluetooth products. Mr. Tipler was a founding member of Tarari Inc., an innovative startup company that made reconfigurable processor boards for Internet servers. These boards enable deep content processing (e.g. virus checking) of TCP/IP traffic at line speeds. At Hughes Canada he had overall responsibility for the network and security architectures, as well as protocol design and testing for Canada’s new national Air Traffic Control (ATC) system. It was one of the world’s first life-critical systems to be based on TCP/IP. Mr. Tipler has served as a Scientific Advisor on patents for both Covington & Burling LLP and Heller Ehrman LLP., specializing in wireless protocols and security. Mr. Tipler was the co-author of the current ACP standard for NATO secure messaging system, and led the development of the world’s first implementation. Most recently, as CTO for TelMedXInc, Mr. Tipler designed a novel network architecture and codec for providing medical grade video from cell phones and developed a related HIPAA-compliant system.

Randy Ullrich, M.B.A., B.S. Computer Science
Senior Vice President of Wireless Applications

Mr. Ullrich brings over 25 years of software, web-applications, and mobile-applications leadership to Humetrix, with deep experience in Lean Start-Ups and Agile Methodologies. Having worked in a variety of industries (including military, healthcare, financial services, and media & entertainment) at both early-stage and mature-stage companies, including two successful M&A exits. Mr. Ullrich brings a variety of experience and management skills to Humetrix. In addition to his duties at Humetrix, Mr. Ullrich runs a mobile-apps entertainment company, RapDevPro. Prior to RapDevPro, Ullrich was the Founder & CEO of FiveSprockets, a web-based software company catering to the Media & Entertainment industry; and CTO at Crossflo Systems, a data-integration company leveraging XML and Web Services to enable public-sector and healthcare agencies to better share information (sold to Patriot Scientific). Earlier in his career, Mr. Ullrich was President & CEO of Systems Engineering Associates (SEA), a software/web consultancy (sold to Nextleft). Prior to SEA/Nextleft, he worked at Accenture, where he led Accenture’s first ever CRM Solution Center onsite at Siebel Systems in Silicon Valley. Mr. Ullrich holds an M.B.A. in Finance and a B.S. in Computer Science from San Diego State University.

Art Friesz.
Software Architect

Mr. Friesz has been serving as lead software architect at Humetrix for the last 10 years. His background includes over 30 years’ experience in the engineering and software fields working in the defense and health information industries. While at General Dynamics he designed inflight propellant control systems for the Atlas and Centaur space boosters integrating sensors with software computer systems. Mr. Friesz also has extensive experience with field operations with the US Air Force at Vandenberg Air Force Base supporting over 28 satellites launches, analyzing data in real time and trouble shooting systems. At Lockheed Martin he served as the vehicle mission integration engineer for the Cassini interplanetary space probe working with the Jet Propulsion Laboratory and NASA. While at Humetrix, Mr. Friesz has led the development of the Netissimo smart card applications and Humetrix USB-based software platform. Mr. Friesz has a B.S. degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Dayton and a Software Engineering Certificate from San Diego State University. He has a strong knowledge of system design, C++ Object Oriented Programming, Software Architecture, Graphical User Interface design and smart card application programming.

Philippe Faurie.
Mobile Application Architect

Mr. Faurie brings 20 years of experience in wireless software development acquired in startups and large corporations. Before Mr. Faurie joined Humetrix, he was Marketing Director at NXP wireless (a $3 billion chipset company); in this role, he helped position the company’s strategy for a new generation of cell phone platforms based on Android (embedded Linux), and was the liaison between international vendors and NXP Corporate R&D division in Europe. Prior to that, Mr. Faurie was the CEO and founder of StackCom, a wireless software company. StackCom developed the most optimized telecommunication stack for GSM phones available on the market at the time and was acquired by Silicon Laboratories, which in turn got acquired by NXP. Mr. Faurie started his wireless career in Paris, France when he joined Wavecom as head of its software department. In this role, Mr. Faurie set up Wavecom’s software department, authored its development plan, and recruited, managed and grew the software teams to 100 engineers in 5 years. In the late 90s, Mr. Faurie was given the opportunity to open and manage the US subsidiary of the group and helped facilitate a successful IPO on the Nasdaq market. Mr. Faurie received a Master’s degree in Software Engineering from the University of Bordeaux, France.

Christopher Hein, Ph.D.
Director of Software Solutions

Dr. Hein plays a leading role in Humetrix product development and enhancement. Dr. Hein is a scientist with over 30 years of professional data management skills, creating IT systems to comply with complex government data standards. He has extensive experience as a proposal manager, program manager, engineering manager and design engineer. His experience includes the development of an electronic data system for Federal reporting and quality control of analytical data at S-Cubed, a division of Maxwell Laboratories ; Technical Information Systems Manager at SAIC, National Environmental Testing Laboratory in San Diego, Ogden and AMEC (2000-2003). Dr. Hein has a Ph.D. in Organic Chemistry from the University of Bristol, England.

Richard Carter
Creative Director& Information Architect

Mr. Carter provides the graphic arts direction of Humetrix with 20 years of experience in designing and directing multiple media. Richard comes from a diverse background of advertising, publishing services, television documentary and theater production with a focus on science and education. His experience also includes guest faculty teaching in Graphic Design, Multimedia and Information Architecture at Stanford University , University of California at San Diego , and San Diego State University . He has received numerous awards and acknowledgements for his participation in shaping the design industry.

Claudia Ellison, MEd
Vice President Marketing

Prior to joining Humetrix in early 2010, Claudia Ellison was Director of Business Development of the eHealth Initiative in Washington, DC. Ms. Ellison is a healthcare professional with over 20 years of experience in both the public and private sectors specializing in building stakeholder collaboratives, managing and implementing state and federal grants, and developing healthcare curriculum for both patient and community education programs. Prior to her position at the eHealth Initiative, Claudia Ellison was with the Texas Health Institute and the Austin Diagnostic Clinic. Ms. Ellison received a Master’s degree in Health Education from the University of Virginia.
